I LoVE LIVING IN DISNEY’S BACKYARD!

We truly do live in the most magical place. It’s not just that we have the #1 Tourist destination in the world right next door, but we have beautiful weather, wonderful people and gorgeous natural resources. For our second year in a row, I want to celebrate living here with our first Annual Disney’s Backyard Scholarship. This $1,000 award will go to a Senior at Horizon High School for use toward college or vocational education after high school.

The entry is simple: Write a roughly 500 word essay to the prompt- “Why I Love Living In Disney’s Backyard” and submit it through the form link below.

The entry deadline is October 31, 2024 and the winner will be announced in the Fall.

Essay Prompt: "Why I Love Living in Disney's Backyard"

Walt Disney once said, "If you can dream it, you can do it." In this essay contest, we invite students to share their thoughts, experiences, and emotions about living near Walt Disney World, also known as "Disney's Backyard." We encourage students to reflect on the impact this iconic destination has had on their lives, the community, and their sense of wonder.

Scholarship Rules and Guidelines:

  • Eligibility: The scholarship is open to all Seniors who are currently enrolled at Horizon High School.

  • Essay Length: Essays must be roughly 500 words. There is no minimum or maximum word count.

  • Original Work: Each student must submit an original essay, written entirely by them. Plagiarized essays will result in immediate disqualification.

  • Formatting: Please ensure your name, grade, and contact information (email and phone number) are included in the essay submission and that the details match your submission on the entry form.

  • Submission Deadline: All essays must be submitted by October 31, 2024 using the online form provided. Late submissions will not be accepted.

  • Judging Criteria: Essays will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

    • Creativity and originality in expressing love for living near Disney's Backyard.

    • Clear and concise writing, including grammar and spelling.

    • Thoughtful insights and personal experiences related to the theme.

    • Overall structure and coherence of the essay.

  • Selection Process: Heart and Home Orlando, LLC will select three finalists from all of the essays submitted. Local leaders and Horizon High School Administrators will be consulted before selection of the final entry.

  • Winner Announcement: The winner of the "Disney's Backyard Essay Contest Scholarship" will be announced on or about December 1, 2024, and the winner will be contacted directly via the provided contact information.

  • Scholarship Award: The scholarship prize of $1,000 will be awarded directly to the winning student to be used for future educational expenses.

  • Publication and Use of Essays: By participating in the contest, students grant Heart and Home Orlando, LLC the right to publish or share their essays for promotional purposes, giving appropriate credit to the authors.

  • Non-Discrimination: The "Disney's Backyard Essay Contest Scholarship" is open to all eligible students regardless of race, gender, religion, or nationality.

This scholarship aims to celebrate the magic of living near Disney's Backyard and provide financial support for a deserving student's education.
